He's using crowdfunding to supplement the local's monthly income by helping them buy food and medicine. It's basically an initiative to sustain the village they passed by for the whole year or until the drought is over.

That is useless. He is getting them hooked up on aid. It is better to build them houses and give them some chicken to raise and give them tools to drill their own water wells.

That's very true. But the issue is also Somalis very rarely have bright ideas. They'd rather just sit and wait for hand-outs like hungry pidgeons waiting for breadcrumbs.

I don't think it's feasible to build everyone in that remote village a house but if he wanted to give that community a sustainable living long after his campaign is done then he should have done what you suggested. He's just capitalizing on his newfound fame and this payment method is light years better than the NGOs who give out rotten food
