Jamila Tries To Showcase Garowe But Faraaxs Couldn’t Contain Their Ignorance

What some shaqolaan twitter weirdos do have no impact with somalis back home, a language spoken by 30 million, where this lady is making this video.
Well it’s definitely impacted how Somalis and non Somalis in the West view it, to such an extent that this very Somali forum has censured the word.

Also, since Somali Bantus have traditionally been heavily looked down upon, being jarerwayne has always been seen as being lower than being indoyar or dhego caas for instance. There is a reason why the word ja*** has been easily weaponised despite simply being a descriptive word like any other words we have for other ethnic groups.

Are they not Muslim now? Did they not become Muslim when they came in contact with Somalis and Arabs? Is having gaal forefathers shameful when you have reverts that become Muslim with whole gaal family members but who have a better link with Allah than some who were born into Islam?

We’re not Yahuud, Islam isn’t a religion based on ethnicity and having forefathers that have been Muslim for centuries. A man that become Muslim a few years ago can enter the highest level of paradise whilst someone who was born into Islam can be destined for Jahannum.

Pride and arrogance is a gateway to hell. Your Somalinimo will not save you, but your humility will. Remember that. Our Prophet s.a.w talked about his in his very last sermon, for he knew that this backward mentality is something some of his Ummah will struggle with.

May Allah protect us all from arrogance. This reminder is for me as well. Sometimes I have moments like this.

they are muslim but they do still retain a lot pagan beliefs and practices which somalis are scared of, their great grandfathers weren’t muslim and were slaves. that’s just how life is, there is social class and slaves or their descendants won’t be ranked highly. midg!ns who are ethnic somali are likewise on the bottom of our social class and looked down upon yet were mentioned in ahmed gurey’s war. nothing racist about it.

What does the fact that their great grandparents not being Muslim have to do with anything? Are you Yahud? Do you think Islam is an ethno religion only inherited? Why do you keep on mentioning the deen of their ancestors? Can you not see that they’re Muslim now?

Many Somalis and other Muslim groups throughout their history retained certain things that aren’t Islamic. You’ve heard of Zaar right? A ceremony many ethnic Somalis used to do which is downright haram but based on pure ignorance. Sado Mire talks about it in her book. Why are you quick to judge them on what they used to do, but not Somalis? Be honest with yourself. The driving force is simply arrogance.

You can’t judge a whole group based on the ignorance of their forefathers, especially now since all Somalis whether Bantu, cadcad or ethnic Somalis have become increasingly practicing. Bantus back home aren’t that culturally different to us anymore.

Your claim that is just how life is simply a cop out, because YOUR belief system says otherwise. You’re judging a group for not having Muslim ancestors when you’re refusing to conduct yourself with the attitude a Muslim is meant to have. Very ironic indeed. Also, their ‘slave’ status is neither here nor there as they’re been free since the 1930s and mistreating fellow Muslims is haram no matter how you spin in.

I detest all forms of arrogance, including qabilism. In fact, I believe hating Madhibaans to be worse because you’re disliking people who look just like you and have lived with you since forever. Even more retarded.

you are going completely off topic, idk what this topic even has to do with islam. my point was simply that there is nothing wrong with somalis back home labelling tanzanians an ajnabi, madow or jare3r. that’s just our language, go to latin america or spain and negro is considered a normal word and not racist at all. stop forcing your tiny minority western outlook on the rest of the world. there is not even 500k western somalis which is less than 2 % of ethnic somali speakers.

i can’t hear them. but from what i see, they’re just kids playing in front of a camera. that’s what kids do. why u calling them guys for as if they’re grown men? displaying your racism, just like how western media portrays 12 year old innocent black children as grown men.

Edeb is part of our religion, we can’t be just calling people jåreer, indoyar etc no matter how old we are. There is a difference between innocent amusement and just plain ignorance. Respectful way would have been asking her were she is from gently.

bro i been to countries where children come up to me and are fascinated by my hair and ask to touch it. it’s not that deep.

Somalis call East Asians indhoyars, call Pakistanis and Indians timo jelecs, call Arabs dagacase......yet, its only from certain folks that get all in their feelings when called a similar descriptive name......I call them Madow and will continue to do so until my dying days.

I just typed that name, and the damn forum has censored it to *madow*......bunch of pansies.

Agree wlhi world has gone soo flipin soft.

Somalis in general are ruthless but there is no maliciousness in the nicknames you are given wether it be for your race/colour of your skin or disability.

If you have one leg ….Lugay!

If you got gap in your teeth… Your name Fork I.e Farhiya Fork!

If your bad at football .. Agueroo000!

I went off topic when you brought up an irrelevant point about them being gaal a century ago. Which created the impression that you think that because their ancestors weren’t Muslim for centuries like ours, Somalis have a right to mistreat them back home. But let’s move on from that point. It is derailing the overall thread and will just create confusion.

I know very well that Ja*** is a descriptive term. Ethnic Somalis with tough hair are told they have j**** hair as well. But if we’re being completely honest with ourselves, ja*** hair is looked down upon. Somalis rarely have the type of very Kinky hair found in Somali Bantus so Somali Bantu hair is mocked even more. Also, due to our current system of looking down on them for being Ja***weyn, being said to be one of them wasn’t seen as a good thing which is why historically a lot of them would be Shegatos. They’d lie about their qabil if they could get away with it, because let’s be real, no one wanted to be ja***.

You know that everything I’m saying is true. My whole point is, yes you’re right it is merely a description but it isn’t a description that is seen as a good thing amongst Somalis. Having timo Jelec is seen as nice, having indo-yar is neither bad or good. Dhegacas are seen as light skin and now some our women are bleaching themselves to have Dhego caas quiet literally.

Do you see where I’m coming from? On the surface, you’re right it is merely a description, but when you look at the connotations it is a lot deeper than that and you’re a smart guy, you know it. Hence, it is a term easier to weaponize more than any other descriptive term.

Regardless of your opinions, we can all agree this isn’t good PR.

A fellow African Muslim hijabi came to our country and got insulted in the street live on camera. Maybe it isn’t an insult to you but it is to many people.

We should be welcoming her instead of making her feel uncomfortable. Imagine if this happened to a Somali in Nairobi.
I agree with you, we should not aleniate these people because they bring good publicity to Somalia and can increase our tourism

Isn’t it interesting to behold how they brag about being Muslims for centuries, but refuse to abide by basic Islamic concepts of Edeb. There are far too many Islamic rulings on the particular matter of disrespectful nicknames and ethnic superiority for us to even be arguing about this. Let’s call a spade a spade.

Just admit that looking down on people is wrong and move on. I have a bad habit of thinking and saying certain things but at least I know I’m wrong and InshaAllah I’ll make an effort to not engage in that.

Me too and I can tell that this incident was just ignorance, not innocent fascination. Why did the child need to STATE, not ask twice ”jåreer baad tahay”. Definitely weird. Whenever I have been in a country where there is no black/somalis people look at me amused and asked me where did I come from. Its ok to be curious but you got to remember how to go on about it. Haven’t had people touch my hair though, but I have taken multiple pictures with locals.

Im not saying this was racism and this video is blown out of proportions by @Grigori Rasputin ( walaalo delete video we get flamed) Its just ignorance from the boys part. Nothing wrong with being curious, just be polite about it.

Edeb, a key part of our religion is being neglected by all muslims unfortunately. Islam would have not spread if Nabi Muhammed SCW did not have admirable akhlaaq. Good behaviour is a must for muslims. Many people here are hypocrites, just being controversial for the sake of it. Im not perfect at all but good rule of the tumb is not to say anything you would not say in real life. I doubt anyone here is a raging cunsuri in real life so no need to fake it on the internet.

Our culture is very direct and doesn’t hold back. This can be good but it certainly has its drawbacks. I don’t mind calling people by their looks, but definitely no need to do this in their face. We need more carefulness as people.

A good rule in life is to also have principles and be honest and call a spade a spade. They know damn well Islam is anti-racist, so why advocate it?

At the end of the day, read the room and when dealing with people call them with what you can see they want to be referred to as. We hate it when we’re called Somalian even though it is an innocent word steeped in ignorance mostly, so why call West Africans who have nothing to do with Madowweyne Ja*** when talking to them?
