Are you sure that’s Muqdisho, there are many Somali Bantu that live there so this lady wouldn’t stand out that much. Even Arabs, Turkish and Indians live there. I think this is a smaller town where the locals aren’t used to seeing people that look different.
What does Mogadishu have to do with PL totally different places thousands of miles apart, most of the south are not openly bigoted, regardless of size of town. The south is more diverse for a reason, its more open to foreigners.

I don't know, the kids don't seem malicious at all; they just look curious and are using words that were originally just harmless descriptives (hair texture) of non-Horn African groups.

Also, ajanabi is correct; we also use this Arabic word to describe foreigners in South Sudan; the Dinka use another j-word ('Jur') to describe anyone that isn't Dinka, Nuer or Shilluk...

..We literally employ the use of that word (meaning foreigner) on all the other ethnic groups in South Sudan -- even though we only very recently arrived from the North.

:snoop:

Ignorant teenagers smh every culture has these types of idiots running around 🤦‍♂️ there’s a some Kenyans Ugandans etc living in Somalia and with us joining the EAC it’s better to be open minded and have better relations with other Africans

Sad to see a muslim sister treated in this way, unfortunately we are decades away from having akhlaaq. Its safe to say dhaqan xumo is the norm back home, whether its being cunsuri, condesncending and overall just bad behaviour. Edeb inaa isbarno waaye.

We really need to start developing our country, education and having better understanding of our deen will stop to this shameless behaviour we see.

Who are they to be racist, half of them are darker than her and their straight nose doesn’t change the fact that Somalia is currently even worse than Tanzania. Let’s see if our dainty noses and soft hair will save us from poverty and social unrest.

In saying that, the poster needs to stop exaggerating. Somalis aren’t going to attack a woman for being different like those psycho Jim Crow redneck racists.

May Allah rid us of arrogance.

They would call Beyonce a nappy hair as well even tho her hair is soft and her nose is pointy , Somalis just like to talk shiit about blacks even tho we are darker then Akon and some of us have nappy hair as well .

It goes both ways the Africans the black new world love to make fun of eachother .

But what these boys did was stupid I hope they grow out of it .

But if ana Arab walks through with her hooked nose they start salivating like wild hyenas in the hot Savanah .

I'm out of the loop here, so did the teenagers use words like ado** or something equally insulting?

I thought jar*** was just descriptive of hair texture; I've seen it used as a weak form of insult.

I’d say the guy who said it in the video wanted to impress his friends as a jokester

there is nothing offensive about the word jare3r or ajnabi. we call chinese people indhoyar which means small eyes which in the west is more racist but that’s just our culture.

nobody considers the word jare3r offensive back home, an entire clan calls themselves that. only a minority of politically correct western diasporas got a problem with it.

So, Somalis discriminate all foreigners.

Asians, Arabs and cadaans.

this is nothing unique.

Also they’re kids: they’re bound to make silly remarks.

Tanzania is a beautiful country and the Somalis that settled there in the 1800s are treated well by the locals even the Yemenis are treated well the current president of Tanzania is a half yemeni woman who’s father settled there in the 60s

The only reason why people now see jar*** as offensive is because of those shaaqo la’aan racists on twitter using the word jar*** like it’s an insult. Many words in history lost its original meaning precisely due to how people started to use it.
The subconscious colourism jumped out :ftw9nwa:

My intuition read this as "Dark skins are supposed to be at the bottom, who are they to possibly show disdain for others?" :ftw9nwa:
Lol, maybe I need to be a lot more tactful with my words.

But my intention wasn't to sound/be colorist. it is the acknowledgment that the racism thrown at madows is also thrown at Somalis as many around the world have an aversion to dark skin, even their own natives like the Arabs and Indians who bully their darker skin kinsmen into bleaching. Somalis are only slightly in a better situation as our features are seen as the ideal.

Regardless of your opinions, we can all agree this isn’t good PR.

A fellow African Muslim hijabi came to our country and got insulted in the street live on camera. Maybe it isn’t an insult to you but it is to many people.

We should be welcoming her instead of making her feel uncomfortable. Imagine if this happened to a Somali in Nairobi.

What some shaqolaan twitter weirdos do have no impact with somalis back home, a language spoken by 30 million, where this lady is making this video.
