Israel Foreign Minister eyes normalisation with Somalia

Interesting article. Normally, Israel would do anything to overturn the anti-Israel stance of countries and normalize ties with them. But in the case of Somalia, their national security were opposed to normalizing with us as we're worthless. How shameful considering that we are in one of the most strategic locations in the region :snoop:

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen plans to normalise relations with Somalia but faces opposition from the Israeli National Security Council, Hebrew media reported on Friday.

According to The Times of Israel, Head of the National Security Council Tzachi Hanegbi opposes ties with Somalia, pointing out that Israel does not have any interest in ties with one of the most economically deprived countries in the world.

The original article is behind time wall but I saw an excerpt it also said we’re a very anti-Israel country on UN votes and international forums etc.

But Yh this is an example of Somalia benefiting more from ties than Israel so I’m not surprised the national security council don’t want ties with us when there’s nothing in it for them.

But that doesn’t mean politicians don’t want it hence the push from Israel’s government for ties

Yeah, irrespective of us not giving anything of value in return to Israel, just neutralizing our anti-Israel stance is worth it on their end.

However, I have a hard time seeing a Somali gov't recognizing them. It would cause uproar amongst the public that it would frankly not be worth it, unless there're incentives that could benefit the country.

To normalise this gov probably want a good deal in return which the National Security Council is against giving given our situation.

I back whatever Netanyahu ends up wanting to happen, will happen in the end. They can overrule the council anyway I assume

Shouldn't a country recognizing them be sufficient? They have a lot of nerve, lol

Considering that we're not loosing out on anything by not paying attention to Israel, while they are in a more precarious diplomatic seat, they should be willing to compromise or offer something that can't be denied. I think economic investments is on the table to the tunes of billions.

I will never associate myself with this country if they do this.

I don't put anything past FGS, who are oftentimes detached from the public and notorious for looking after the interests of the people at the top. Although, I don't think that it will happen (in the near future), given their past records don't be surprised if they actually go ahead with normalizations :manny:

We’ve been through way worse shit for us to stoop this low and work with devils soldiers. Our dignity and pride will go down the drain.

We should normalise ties with Israel and open our embassy in Jerusalem and they should open an Embassy in Mogadishu.

After that we can discuss strengthening ties
