Islam on evolution

Evolution has been spoken about in the ancient times by Muslim scholars: Encyclopedia of the Brethren of Purity (The Epistles of Ikhwan al-Safa) as follows:

State that God first created matter and invested it with energy for development. Matter, therefore, adopted the form of vapour which assumed the shape of water in due time. The next stage of development was mineral life. Different kinds of stones developed in course of time. Their highest form being mirjan (coral). It is a stone which has in it branches like those of a tree. After mineral life evolves vegetation. The evolution of vegetation culminates with a tree which bears the qualities of an animal. This is the date-palm. It has male and female genders. It does not wither if all its branches are chopped but it dies when the head is cut off. The date-palm is therefore considered the highest among the trees and resembles the lowest among animals. Then is born the lowest of animals. It evolves into an ape. This is not the statement of Darwin. This is what Ibn Maskawayh states and this is precisely what is written in the Epistles of Ikhwan al-Safa. The Muslim thinkers state that ape then evolved into a lower kind of a barbarian man. He then became a superior human being. Man becomes a saint, a prophet. He evolves into a higher stage and becomes an angel. The one higher to angels is indeed none but God. Everything begins from Him and everything returns to Him.

The only real problem Islam has with evolution is the story of Adam and Eve.

If we assume all living beings have evolved from something else, then what did Adam or Eve evolve from? Science states that the ancestors were Homo Erectus or did they skip this step?

It's definitely a mystery. Even the statement that Eve was created out of a "rib" from Adam’s body. Even to a hardcore believer this has not only been a mystery but an almost inconceivable thing, and the question naturally arises as to why it was necessary to take even a rib from the body of Adam to create Eve when God had created all the other creatures independently of each other and was just as capable of creating a complete woman without any part of a man’s body as He was of creating Adam. Certainly, it was not a physiological necessity to have a rib of Adam to begin with and it is only natural that we should think there is some mystery or a hidden knowledge or some mystical or other law involved in this taking of a rib from Adam.

This Ibn Maskawayh sounds like a whack job, if Humans became Angels it would have been stated in the Quran. Jinns, Angels, and Humans are separate creations.

Yes, I see. How could have I been so blind from the truth(science)? Thanks for the light you've shunned on me.

Science says: Knowledge is fine as long as it has followed and passed the Scientific Method.

I'm guessing that is what makes science the ultimate "truth"

Did you ever think about the possibility that the earthly dust that Adam was created from included the dusted bones of a hominid that died? Do you think about the fact that the Qur'an then states Allah gave human beings the faculty of language. And it is language that sets us apart from other animals?

The Qur'an never states Eve was created from a rib.
