Not sure how closely related you need to be to qualify. But there's >1.5 million of them in NYC alone. I'm not sure getting a <$122 check in the mail is a big deal.

If African Americans ever get reparations, it should never be in the form of a one-time payment. They should form an institution that gets hefty sums of money and then start allocating to improving the conditions of the disadvantaged by funding schools and neighborhoods and getting the basic materials needed to have that early advantage for families through institutional privileges. You can do a lot that way.

If you give a couple of grand to someone, it would be gone within a month, washing it down the drain because the spending habits of the average person are already terrible.

I think the Holocaust received the most comprehensive reparations in history. Even the German government completely cowered to Israel, showing moral blindness to their atrocities because of this guilt incurred from their atrocities many decades ago. Incessant overcompensation goes to another extreme.

Let's look at a comparative situation where Germany almost eradicated a whole group of people in Namibia:

According to Reuters, Germany only gave the government 1.22 billion dollars in the form of investments in projects (not reparations to the people), recognizing the systemic eradication as genocide in 2021 -- three years ago, from a century-old savagery. Up to 80% of the population was killed. Granted, we're comparing millions to tens of thousands, but according to ratio estimates, Namibians felt it as immediate, perhaps even more.
