50 years ago you would find families who chose not to have tvs in their homes.
Despite the plethora of information being broadcasted from documentaries, news or bio pictures, people were well aware of the garbage, propaganda, social conditioning and unproductive entertainment being shown and chose to not engage with it. These families opted for reading, physical activities, learning hobbies and socializing as a means to elevate boredom.
Fast forward to 2024. You wake up and turn off your alarm on your phone and you quickly go on social media, tik tok before you get out of bed.
Due to carefully insidious social hacking your stuck in an endless scroll of dopamine seeking still stuck in your bed for the last 30 minutes. You are the equivalent of a fly caught in a fly trap.
Now why is it that so many people are chronically online? I believe it’s boredom. Boredom 50 years ago the easy way to escape it was watching tv. Today it’s endlessly watching tiktok reels, youtube videos, binge watching series and scrolling on twitter.
In order to curb your internet addiction you need to find a healthier way to curb your bordom
I’ve been making a concious effort to lower my screen time and using it for productive reasons. smart phone use is part of our daily life there’s no escape but we can be more mindful to avoid the traps and being in the sunken place
A quick fix to significantly be uninterested in your phone is to turn of your color filters.
Part of why the phones are so addictive is the bright shiny colours on our screen and this incentives users to stay glued to your phone.
try it sometime you’ll be less likely to stay glued to your phone by turning off the colour
Stop listening to music as well. every time you listen to music it forces you to pick up your phone and shuffle thru songs and constantly check your notifications. decrease your phone pickup/unlocks by stopping music listening. if you really need to listen to stuff listen to audiobooks instead, much more productive
