A mysterious source contacted multiple news outlets this week to share emails between the influential ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, Yousef Al Otaiba, and top figures in the American foreign policy community, including former Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

Behind the scenes, Otaiba ― an extremely powerful figure in Washington, D.C., who is reportedly in “in almost constant phone and email contact,” with Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s adviser and son-in-law ― is seen pushing for the U.S. to close down its military base in Qatar and otherwise poking at issues that could drive a wedge between the U.S. and that Arab nation. He also says that his country’s de facto ruler is supportive of a wave of anti-Qatar criticism in the U.S. that the Gulf state last month called a smear campaign.

The anonymous leakers told HuffPost they sought to expose the UAE’s efforts to manipulate the U.S. government, and denied any allegiance to Qatar or any other government.

The Foundation for Defense of Democracies spends much of its time trying to strengthen ties between Washington and conservative political forces in Israel. But despite the UAE’s refusal to establish diplomatic ties with Israel, the think tank and others in the pro-Israel lobby have found common ground with the Emirates on two major issues: Both want to contain Iran and political Islam. Both suffered a high-profile defeat when the U.S. and other nations reached a nuclear deal with Iran in 2015. And for the past year or so, both have been pushing to make the future of U.S. relations with Qatar a debate in D.C.

Trump's administration has probably exposed itself more publicly than the other US government administrations.

Many leaders are getting frustrated by the US

but they still bow down to the US

Either, the US is getting fucked up or the the USA's allies are getting fucked up or maybe both?
:kanyeshrug:

Either way, the world is fucked.

Why is the UAE so concerned with Qatar?? The real powerhouses in the ME are Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.
Israel, Saudi, and UAE all want to bring down Iran.
Israel and UAE now want to bring down Qatar.
Israel and UAE don't have diplomatic ties.
Only Saudi gets off scot free while its neighbors cannibalize each other.

p.s. I highly doubt that the anonymous leakers don't have any relation to Qatar:bell:

???, if it's about who sponsors terror...that still doesn't explain why UAE is upset with Qatar. UAE is part of the Gulf states group as well and Saudi would've been a more accurate target.

I think the beef started when Qatar owned news agency (Al Jazeera) stated that Iran is an Islamic power and criticized Trump's speech in Saudi Arabia regarding Iran.

UAE & Saudi both banned Al Jazeera.

Basically they're against the muslim brotherhood which is sponsored by Qatar and turkey

It started way before when Qatar financed the Muslim brotherhood candidates in both Egypt and Tunisia

I know but that specific incident escalated the beef. Qatar also grants immunity to Hamas leaders which Israel through UAE back channel diplomacy wants to oust them from the country.

I'm so confused, ME politics is so all over the place lol.
Why is UAE against the Muslim Brotherhood? And didn't @Hemaal say that Qatar supported the coup in Turkey? (Yet both Turkey and Qatar are allied in sponsoring the Muslim Brotherhood...??). Are you familiar with the final objective of these countries? Can they be categorized into groups?

So far, it seems as if UAE is just a puppet for spreading Saudi interests ..and Qatar is leaning more towards Iran solely because it opposes Saudi domination of the ME. (Although Qatar is Sunni right?)
Where does America and the West lie in all of this?

It was the UAE. Here is my earlier tweet

I'll make it simple for you, UAE is for a moderate progressive arab world while Qatar is in bed with the Islamists and terror camps of the arab world even Al shabaab in Somalia. Qatar is allied with Turkey because of Erdogan's views as he's an Islamist.

Unlike what many people would believe the middle East cold war is not a Sunni/Shia conflict it's more about the domination of the middle East it all started when sadam was overthrown this made Iraq as a playing field instead of player so Saudis and Iranians tried to battle each other for influence in there then the Arab spring came opening up even more playing fields like Egypt and Yemen and Syria, also Saudi Arabia wants to be the only one that defines what Islam means in politics so the muslim brotherhood and any form of Democratic islamism is a threat to Saudi Arabia this is why they supported the most unislamic leaders in Egypt and tunisa and since the muslim brotherhood got direct support from Qatar and to a lesser extent turkey that makes them Saudi enemies. Anyway this thing is too complicated to summarize it Saudi Arabia and UAE are on one side Iran is on the other while Saudi Arabia is having a side conflict with Qatar

Sorry, I misread your earlier post.

What I still don't understand with Qatar being portrayed as "in bed with the Islamists and terror camps" is that:
1) America (under the Obama admin) was supportive of the Muslim Brother hood as well.
2) Somalia has positive relations with Turkey (under the Erdogan admin) so why would that happen if Erdogan supports Islamism (and thus, indirectly, Al Shabab)?? (A lot of Somalis here even believe that Turkey should be our number 1 ally...but Qatar is the bad guy?).
3) If UAE is for "moderate progressive arab world", why is it so pro-Saudi Arabia??? Saudi wahabbism is more cancerous than anything Qatar has ever done.
