Those fellas (Varangian Rus) gave Russia it's name and it's first ruling family.
Some people will look back with awe at the the manly glories of groups such as the Vikings but we rarely hear the historical narrative of those on the losing side. Their loss, trials and tribulations are a mere footnote in most of recorded History. Take the slave women and men in this primary historical source. Were they Slavs, Finns, Balts? Were their villages razed to the ground in a Viking raid?......
From a modern, Western idealistic perspective, the human spirit of such folk must have been made of something else for them to suffer such cruelties yet choose life over death.

This part had me dead laughing:

Are you kidding me they are selling slaves that they just coom'd in while the buyer watches. Man, those times were something else.

Nothing funny about that when you consider our nomadic ancestors did not have constant access to water. Man and filth go together often, I kid!
Why do you think we are allowed to do ablution with sand?
Or use sticks or stones after defecating?
Things would not have changed that much in Europe until the 19th century. Arabs and Turks liked European slave women but there is a historical record of them criticising their hygiene practices after coming off a perod; basically they would not use water like Eastern ethnic groups do.
