A lot of people were rightfully angry at my my hot take on the situation.

Yes, SL was wrong for what they did, but I could not help the feeling that many were taking shots at them because it was convenient.

So many times I have seen people using Eelay as a denigrating insult and to see the same people indignant at their mistreatment. I see that as a cynical political ploy.

Alas, that does not matter because wrong is wrong.

People can feel how they want about D&M and still be against how they were treated. The forced displacement and looting of their properties aside, women and children were separated from their families and are still missing. I don’t know how anyone can defend that.

i'm glad you change your mind. I undrestand why you guys get so defensive because you feel SL is beig attacked when people denounce what happened. Yes , other somalis insult RX too by calling them "eelay" in a negative way, but somalis always say stupid shit against each other. Clan bashing is wrong, but insults are one thing while forced deportations of women and children are a completly different issue. There is no political plot against SL on this matter, nobody forced SL authorities to do what they did and it was obvious that people all over somaliweyn would criticize this.

I also think SL is acting irrationally . the deportations are a huge PR nightmare. Somaliland worked so hard to get a good reputation and now they destroy that with authoritarian decisions like arresting people over a somali flag or deporting innocent civilians just because of their clan.
If SL leaders were smart they would treat immigrant communities with respect to show the world how tolerant they are and how they deserve recognition. SL authorities acted out of pure hatred and nothing else and there are many citizens in your country that are 100% against deporting fellow somalis
