That when cadaan girls say “tall, dark and handsome”, they mean this…

They mean a white guy with dark hair.

Well yes, the term originates from 200 yrs ago, at a time in which ethnic minorities were scarce in white societies. That is normal.

It’s like when Somalis call someone ‘caad’, they don’t mean cadaans do they?!

Well POCs need to stop being cringe and stop inserting themselves into white people’s beauty standards and lingo. What they see as dark, is what we see as light and what we see and say is ‘caad’ is what they see as not just darker, but very dark. Understandable. Different culture, different lens.

Yeah I completely understand with context. It’s just that this phrase gets used so much and no one ever makes the common sense distinction to say “actually we’re talking about cadaans with dark hair”

Personally, I am not that into cadaan women but I feel for the brothers that do.

Nah, I think people should use their common sense and understand that cadaan women are clearly talking about their own men, similarly to how when black men talk about ‘lighties’ they’re talking about their own light skin black/mixed women. I’m sure if an cadaan woman was to say that she thought that black people were talking about white women when praising lightskin women, people would be scratching their heads.

What has thrown me is that I’ve seen black girls use this phrase also.

I have also seen people say they like their men like coffee, tall, dark and handsome. Coffee is black.

In hindsight, I don’t know why I’m surprised but cadaans are funny people wallahi.

Yep, but that is black women in Western countries who are using the term the way it is understood in their host countries.

It’s like a white man In a predominately black community talking about being into lighties. Clearly he’s using the phrase the way it is understood in the community he is around

They’re talking about coffee colored hair as in brown/black hair. Makes complete sense.

Lol, so are Somalis. We’re out here calling a blatantly brown man/woman ‘caad’ which means white because they’re a little bit lighter than the rest. Every community is like that!

True. Dark/light skin is relative. Like you said, we call cadcad folk lightskin/white (cad) but they're dark skinned according to cadaan people. Back in the day you'll even find fair haired cadaans calling darker haired cadaans "black". If you understood it literally you'd assume parts of Europe and the Caucasus was inhabited by black people.
