I was thinking to myself 🤔

In some Somali songs and even at times I noticed beautiful females are referred to as a geenyada, as I understand geenyada means a beautiful horse, so now my question is isn't it disrespectful to equal a human to an animal? Here where I live if I was to compare the native women to horses I'll probably get in big trouble.. So how come this is acceptable in somali culture? Does it bother you Xalimos to be compared to a horse?

Its a terms of endearment. Somalis most precious belongings is domestic animals. So it is natural to call you what they prize most.

Even in English they've got "as elegant as a Swan" or "brave as a lion". Doesn't mean they are calling you an animal.

You can call them 'dameer farrow' or 'lax yahay' if you wanna be extra xaasid :ileycry:

I also heard the term 'bird' is a slang for young women in the UK . in the US we use 'chicks', pretty similar.

Different strokes for different cultures.

In traditional classic Somali culture, horses might be seen as an animal of beauty and prized.

Arabs love to compare their beautiful women to gazelles as its seen as a beautiful and prized animal.

For the English, its swans.

Context needs to be taken into account. If a Western Farax called me a horse, we're tussling. I know damn well you fish and chibbs Faraxs don't find horses beautiful.
