Don’t compare us with them walal. They opened infants chests while they’re alive and treated women like they’re some dolls. That’s something a Somali have never done. They can do whatever they want but that will forever be a stain.

Somalia or Somali Republic is perfect, you guys forget the stigma once associated with the Irish, Balkan, Vietnamese and Korean names and how they all regained their prestige through stability, economic prosperity and influence. Instead of looking for a new name, think of ways that Somalia could leap frog development to the point that people only associate positive things when they hear the country’s name.

Low hanging fruit to achieve this fast is soft-power influence in the form of films, music, a world class national carrier, and a national football team performing well at the World Cup. The wealth to make it happen is already there, but not the will.

Long-term, the country does have to achieve an economic miracle like the Asian Tigers or at-least a high middle income country status to complete the process.

I’ve always wondered where the name Somalia came from and why were named that. I’ve heard it means go milk? But why did we choose to stay with the same name we had during colonial times? I’ve long thought we need a new flag, coat of arms and name. (Only when we recapture our lost land of course)
