That isn’t to say I have completely cut off from eating Somali food. I am trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle and I am also inspired by our ancestors and how they looked before colonialism. My diet is mainly protein and healthy carbs, even in Ramadan I hardly made samosa and buur. I also don’t drink Somali tea. It was hard cutting off these foods but it gets easier and when I have a cheat meal and I am craving Somali food, I will either make it myself or buy it from the Somali restaurant.
