Nation-states are by their nature exclusive. They continue to define themselves by an ideal archetype, & progressively cut people out. Most French did not speak French even as recently as 1 or 2 centuries ago.

The world ruled by Empires held together by a dominant ethnicity have been the norm thoughout history.
It's only in the gunpowder age where nation states who were highly centralised with state armies that functioned effectively on the battlefield did nation states start to dominate. Empires usually picked out from a group of ethnicities to be their warrior caste whilst nation states utilised the whole nation which allowed for industrialisation, large armies and large colonial holdings sending wealth back to the motherland.

However now after ww2 the world was once again dominated by 2 big multi ethnic empires, the USA and the USSR. And the nation state has been falling in importance ever since.
Somalis should think big and perhaps instead of just aiming for Somaliweyn, we should put ourselves back on top of this region and form a multi ethnic Islamic empire in the horn. Uniting all Muslim cushites in our region and sticking the finger to amxaro. This neo-adal shit would be a force to be reckoned with. If it industrialises as well this Islamic empire could be a world power. One can wish...

It's different depending on which specific empire and which exact form of imperialism we're talking about.

Muslims conquering the Iberian Peninsula and establishing Al-Andalus of course is a glorious part of history. It is absolutely right for Muslims to be proud of it.

But... US trying to threaten Uganda with sanctions if they don't accept lgbt.... it's an evil form of imperialism.

So empire/imperialism can be good or bad. Seeking after purely material gain and genociding the natives... that is definitely evil.

But glorious expansion of Muslim state... furthering the expansion of the Islam and dealing with the native population in a humane way... I think it's definitely something to be celebrated.

just sort as sort of a quick, easy trick to moral evaluation of empire/imperialism.... pretty much any form of imperialism associated with Anglos is something evil... there were and can be glorious Muslim empires but British and US imperialism, today and historically, are extremely evil... Spanish was morally superior to the British empire (well... after the crimes against the Muslims... I won't defend that... but afterwards, though...) but that's another subject

edit: oh also Soviet Empire... also an evil empire... it doesn't make sense to say you are blanket pro-empire.... you can't as a Muslim really be in favor of the USSR that wanted to eliminate religion... and you would have to be a messed up person to support the evil British Empire
