Somalis are seen as black to the uneducated world. Period.

We need to keep a healthy distance from the madow community, not out of hatred but to keep hold of our identity. If we have good sense of identity then we can recognise what our issues are. However if we mesh into the larger black community their issues become our issues. Which is what we don't want as we have enough on our plate.

We, somalis, are in a weird place. I don't view myself or any somali as black. Blacks don't see us as black. Other africans don't have a sense of fellowship with us. Other races (cadaans, indayar, latinos..etc) see us as black. So not only do we face discrimination from other races in terms of our skin colors/ being african, we also face discriminations from blacks/other africans. We face discrimination from all directions. We really are in a corner :cosbyhmm:
