Most of the slaves sold in Somali port were from Ethiopia(Nilotes, Omotic and Oromos) historically Ethiopia used Zeila and one of the Eritrean ports to ship them out, but no where near the level of the Arab slavers and the Sahara slave trade, we heavily taxed them and shipped the goods, this was happening even before Islam and it continued after.

The Somalis were not involved in the slavery trade, but what happened in the 19th century was that the Europeans banned slavery and cut off the slave trade routes that came from tropical Africa to its coasts. Then slave traders began to use other routes across the Somali coast. This is why you find that there was a lot of slavery in the Somali region at that time, but before that it was very little
