Northern Yemen did not involve itself, one way or another. Yemen in those days was extremely volatile before, during, and after the war. You had assassinations, conflicts, and rapid political turnover with a brewing war with northern Yemen. South Yemen was deeply entrenched in ideology so when it saw America siding with Somalia, it picked Ethiopia on a communistic contrarian ideological compulsion.

So presenting it as a representative case of Yemenis at the time would be disingenuous especially when we know that Yemen sided with Somalis against Ethiopia during the days when it was under monarchy.
