Eastleigh was founded in the colonial period it went from Somali to Indian to Somali again. The street names are being changed after Yusuf Xaajis passing May Allah rest his soul. First avenue the largest street was named in his honor.
Eastleigh was the Somali camp where Somali African corps of the British empire used to live.
You have to understand that it was troops from Northern Somalia that were used by the British to go deep into the interior of Kenya.Somalis were British scouts as well as soilders.
Also the British stopped the Somalis nomads from expanding beyond so the somalis were restricted to Garissa and not allowed to cross the river Tana for fear that Somalis would expand into Nairobi and further.
