How do you say book in somali?

I've always said buug (I'm not sure if that's how it is spelled). I assume this is a loan words. Does anyone know what we would call books and other such written documents before we used this word?

Yeah it’s common in the northern dialect

In my family we use the word buug. Kitaab is only reserved for the Quraan. My family will kill me if I call a regular book kitaab.

I was born and raised in Mogadishu, but mom and dad are from two different regions: Somali galbeed and from North.
