My dad was listening to quran and reading hadith in his room when he called me over. In awe of god's power, he dared me to explain how planes and birds fly.

When I explained that the aerodynamic shape of the wings pushes air down and provides lift, and that the engine drives the plane forward, all hell broke loose. He proclaimed that none but Allah knew and that these people (engineers etc.) were clueless.

I couldn't help but laugh out loud. He was genuinely upset though, so I do feel bad for him.

Don't laugh at him. Just nod along, thrown in a stray subhanallah. That's your parent and it's all he's known warya. His faith carried him through life. You don't chip away at it in his old age.

Many of our parent's have not had the things we take for granted: a proper education that is affordable.

Much of the knowledge from the civil war has deteriorated too, leaving many at the whims of what ever Sheikh shows them affection and a easily understandable world

My dad believes jhinns have infested our homes we are not even allowed pictures up our walls, he went from a liberal Muslim who didn't know anything to a wahhabi slave after watching YouTube videos, what sucks is that he must have lived a far liberal lifestyle in Somalia before the war :/. My house is now empty the walls are crying to have pictures Of our memories put up.

what did you dad do wrong to have you as a son?
Does he know you are qasaaro?
What are you talking about?
:mahubowtf:

His dad literally said planes fly because of God. I can understand how God guides the pilot to drive the plane without crashing or to crash but to literally say God allows a hunk of metal to fly?

All the scientific laws are from the Creator. Funny enough you will be burning in your grave and not your dad.

Right, it's a source of comfort and strength. I wouldn't want to chip away at my parents faith even if i could, because frankly i think they'd be worse off without it.

I am talking about the fact that OP is qasaaro atheist and his father is Muslim.

You're actually mocking the essence of what it is to believe in god.

My parents were non-practicing for a portion of life, esp one of them, though they know where I stand, I wouldn't take it up the unnecessary notch of attacking and dismantling their faith. Even if I can't imagine them saying the OP fathers' words, even if they may have had the same thought process as I do atsome point, as I suspect of particularly one of them, pretty soon I have family going to make pilgrimage to Makkah to wash themselves of lifelong sin, so I know where the chips have fallen, and I can respect that regardless of my own disbelief. I've had an unexpected unfiltered conversation with them before, and even though it wasnt attacking anything but outlining my own stance, the aftermath was sad. Their courtesy is to treat it like a phase, mine is to pretend it is.
