I will admit I didn't read it but I do have an opinion on the topic. I think it's a wonderful thing that the poorest continent in the world is getting a boost from it's youth. There is a massive downside to this "tech savvy" generation of Africans, however. They gradually get out of touch with their culture and history and before long, they will be like Europe or North America. In addition, a population that is too much into technology and relies on it too much loses appreciation for nature and the way things used to be. Just my two cents. Hope I don't offend anyone or kill the mood.

Must I point out the irony that you say most cannot read while posting a sentence that starts with "how you expect them"? And she is not saying you should "learn" technology. She is in awe of the technology generation that is blossoming in Africa today. Although there are downsides to it, I am generally supportive of it.

Hadn't thought of it that way. Of course there are more benefits that come with connecting on a global scale but even the best things come with risks. Africa has got a tremendously rich history/culture & we can't afford to lose it.

Who cares? Look at what holding on to culture has done for Africa. Created the shittest continent this world has ever seen.
I for one say embrace modernity. Look at East Asia, they held on to the nice parts of their culture and modernised everything else, now they’re rich and successful.
No matter how much people try to preserve cultures, they will be diluted and replaced with a globalised modern culture. Might aswell embrace it instead of fighting the inevitable.

I agree somewhat that Africa should embrace modernity but I wholeheartedly disagree that culture has caused the “the shittiest continent” ever. Democracy has many upsides and is arguably the least bad form of government, but it takes getting used to. People who’ve been practicing it for hundreds of years have a head start on people who’ve only started to try it in the 1980s and 90s. Keep in mind that while the west was practicing democracy for hundreds of years, they were denying Africa the opportunity to also have democracy.
