I've noticed time and time again, that Hollywood loves writing Somali characters but never casts Somalis in these roles. This time, there is a new show called The Bear and one of the characters is called Ebrahim, spelt like this. I was suspicious that this man was supposed to be Somali but it was confirmed for me when he was making a dish called Chicken Suqaar.

This is the actor who is playing what I suspect to be a Somali man, why not cast Barkhad Ali? They think all people of African descent are interchangeable.

Somalis deserve to be represented by Somalis. Plus, there are Somali actors who are struggling to find work so why should an African American or another African take that spot? Barkhad Ali could have done this for example. Or one of the many actors in Captain Philip

We know Somalis look down on the arts, you are actively discouraged to participate in them. There are probably not many skillful Somali actors in Hollywood.

This is true. Plus, these casting agents are racist anyway, I can't expect them to realise that not all Africans are the same. These movie and tv productions don't even bother having African dialogue coaches and use a Nigerian accent for all African roles.

Not only Hollywood that Korean movie escape from Mogadishu casted West Africans as Somalis.

No several members of my mothers family were singers and actors though

As bad as the Kacaan gov was, they did a great job pushing native Somali culture through art and entertainment

acting is not easy and the person that ultimately gets the role deserves it as they convinced a panel of judges that they embody the spirit of the character. Nothing wrong with good actors playing Somalis in movies or films, I like it
