You need to tie up some loose ends tbh.
Listen to your family they're probably right.
I don't think there are advantages for befriending strangers , but go for it , If you think it's right, I get it , we all became a bit asocial during the pandemic and thus it's not surprising expand the circle of friendship like how politicians expand their bilateral expertise.
Getting to know your new work colleague, classmate or mutual stranger is normal and not unusual. However.
