It is not just Qardho that is flooding. Why are Somalis stupid enough to build houses at the edge of the riverbank?:farmajoyaab::farmajoyaab: this is why we need building regulations.

Alx that the damage was so minimal, that one family and should be compensated swiftly and may Allah protect the rest of the community.

Why should they be compensated for their own stupidity? build at the edge of a riverbank (99.9% chance of flooding) you should be prepared to face the consequences.

Abaayo I am not here for sob stories. Poor or not, no one should be building on edge of riverbanks due to high risk of flooding & death. There should be building regulations across all of Somalia.

This is literally the edge of a riverbank which makes it worse. In UK it is a different matter because a lot of the old towns were built on flood plains when flooding wasn't common in UK but not actual edge of riverbank.

In the past under the British administration building on land near riverbanks never mind at the edge of it was prohibited. Riverbanks in the north were watering holes for camels and very clean.

Planting trees around rivers could reduce the height of flooding in towns by up to 20%, new research suggests.

A study for the Environment Agency concludes that trees round a feeder stream can slow the rush of rainwater and save properties from flooding.
