A couple comment's that were spot on from the thread.
They didnt elect her to change Somali Ethnic Paternal Lineage or Somali Citizenship Laws , Her advocating for this while Sitting in a Clan's Seat is Outrageous.
very hypocritical. Can’t have your cake and eat it. If she wants to dismantle that system she should first start with giving up role she got through tribe affiliation. Focus on getting rid of tribe based politics and then tribe-less children’s rights can be discussed.
She’s using her fathers clan to be in the parliament why didn’t she use her mothers clan???
When you marry a man your kids adapt his culture it’s not the Federal Government of Somalia’s job to cater to your feelings.

You are allowed only to have the citizenship if your father is Somali according to Islamic teachings. The half mixed kids need to claim their aboo side and leave authentic somali people alone.
I'm pretty sure je sanguinis applies to both mother and father and not just the father.
The confusion stems from the idea that citizenship should reflect you tribal ancestry. They dont have to be the same thing. Having a somali citizenship merely means you have the right to live in the country it doesnt say your tribe x or y.

No, non-citizens of a country can still live in the country as long as they have the necessary permits. A citizenship means that you are a member of the country and have all the privileges and responsibilities that entails.
I get that there are levels in what rights a state allows you to have as a non citizen, but i'm trying to address the inheritance of citizenship aspect of this law. We need to separate tribe/clan and citizenship.
You are correct. A lot of those nations allow for blood citizenship through mothers though some make it exclusive to fathers bloodline. Personally I believe it should be based on how much one is connected to the culture and language, a father can have child who ignorant of Somali customs while a mother might bring up a child knowledgeable of his culture, history and language.
These are discussions politicians should have after they solve major issues. Once we're at peace then maybe the debate should be brought up for discussion.

I think we should copy the ideas of neighboring countries. I do not support this idea, but I believe that if a Gulf woman marries a foreigner, her children and husband take citizenship, but upon her death they are granted permanent residency. I know some people who have a Saudi mother and a Yemeni father who told me the same thing.
This is the constitution being discussed, of course people would think long term rather than here and now
They’re discussing a Somalia that’s actually worth a damn (on the same level of development as Egypt or UAE).
That’s the hypothetical.
It's the mother who instills values, morals, and culture in her children. It's the mother who nourishes and cares for her child. It is a mother who is with her child when they experience all the first moments in life. While it's true that the child follows the paternal lineage of the father, they tend to assimilate and be close to the culture of their mother.
Somalia is facing tons of problems that are more worthy of a serious and fruitful discussion. Somali citizenship should be the least of our concerns. No Somali woman or even man is looking to attain Somali citizenship. It's worthless and has no value. Gatekeeping, the shittest passport and citizenship in the world, is hilarious.
ik that mixed kids with pale skinned fathers cant nor will ever be accepted by that side so they tend to be forced into assimilating into their Somali mothers side but is none of our issue nor care. Mixed kids with Somali dads are not confused and know they are Somalis so they are not assimilated but are themself.

If that was the case, you wouldn't have Western citizenship as you certainly aren't Western.
The native cadaan made this laws and regulations. It’s their country and free to do what they see the best for them.
Then why are you "disobeying Islamic teachings" by taking it? It is not Islamic teachings and it only refers to lineage. You can claim Somali and take citizenship if your mother is Somali.

in order to take citizenship your father need to be Somali, and the mother can’t grant you citizenship cause it’s against Islamic law or xeer system.
