Harar Was Never Harari

Previous to the 1800's the region of Harar was referred to as Barbaria due to the dominance of the Somalis, in fact European travelllers even stated the city was purely dwelt by invidiuals of Somali stock, historians even stated that the modern Harari are in fact not descendants of the historical populous which owned the city of Harar
The whole of east Hararghe belongs to Somalis and all the neighboring villages of Harar, yet people still believe these Habesha ethio semitic people speaking are the Harla?
Even west Hararghe is filled with Somalis, and they can be found as far as Wollo

Now this begs the question, if they are not Harla, what are they?
Well in the 1800's the Oromo hordes were ravaging village after village enroaching upon the Somali lands, consistently taking territory and establishing the Gada the system in the lands of the locales, this has been taking place since the 1540's, but the 1800's was the final straw (the first stage they burned down thousands of villages from the lands of Bale to as far as Hararghe and destroyed many metropolises), but now the Oromo were stationed in west Hararghe, some had even penetrated into the Babiile
This caused waves of migrations eastwards, causing many Somalis to adopt nomadism, meaning the whole city was left for free real estate

The merchant Habesha class of Muslims quickly became the dominant demographic within the city, unlong with the Oromo invaders and Guraages, they combined with the few remaining Somalis formulate a merged culture and language known as Harari, however they have NO RELATION to the ancient Harla, by the 17th century the group had become non existent

In historical texts harari is just people of Harar. As stated by Richard Burton the city in the mid 1800s was largely Somali of both reer magaal and reer baadiya

There's also the fact harari people are formed by a somali Marexan, Nur ibn Mujahid who ruled the city and adal as successor to Imam ahmad. He built the walls of Harar to keep out galla hordes. The people in the city eventually started to mix together and form a distinct culture we hall harari today. Although there were still a major % of Harar who were pure somali.

After Adal collapsed it fell into successor states. Aussa Imamnate which was dir somali but was taken over by the afar sultan and became the aussa sultanate which was puppet of Ethiopia and later Europeans under afar rule. And the Harar sultanate which was also somali and destroyed and annexed by Menelik II in 1880s and the Harari people were genocided and the Somali population were expelled.
