Does it mean witch in somali?
That's what the internet told me
Wallahi this is weird haven't you ever heard of what it actually means? Witch is what europeans thought of them but that's not it. They're miskiin oo indho kulul. You simply don't mess with them otherwise you'lll get cuqubo that is what it means. They weren't concocting magical soup.

QumayoWhere does the word "Qumaayo" originate from. and what does it mean? @Hamzza
Interesting.Qumayo
I think, in its etymology, it might have its root in 'Quman', tonsils in the human anatomy, and when someone talks aggressively ad nauseam, and for no apparent reason, with malice, and with the indication being that she is speaking in guttural thrusts, ergo engaging tonsils, with froth and suds aplenty, then that person, mostly of the female species, is said to be 'Qumayo', and you may hear 'Qumayo qal dheer', which further delineates its etymological seed. You get the gist.
We shall let the literati folk further speak to it.
Here is what the dictionary have to say about it.

As i heard it really is a miskiin wither it's a man or woman that you don't mess with because of their powerful eye that can give off cuqubo.I believe the "qumay" translation even tho it applies to men

I heard because they're either powerless and have no one but allah or that they are madluum hence a strong habar power.Interesting. Now we are getting some where. Why are they "Miiskin"?

I don't have definent answer but i think that the childless one is a powerless women that don't have kids to take care of her so she only have allah. I use to hear wa qof goblan oo miskiin ah be carful of her and don't incur her wrath. The mid wife isn't the favoured wife so she is qof ciilan and therefore is resentful and more likely to do habaar.and on Somali society why is the mid wife feared? or childless women?
