Half East African half American American

For my Somali Americans How common is this mix in America there seems to be a good amount of people who are mixed with east African and African American some very famous ones even like nipsey hussle,tiffany hadish,chef roble, swizz beatz ,barak obamas kids etc and many more so my question is are there a lot of people with roots in both groups ? hopefully this is an educational thread if your mixed with both groups please share your experiences

In DC and the area around it, I met a few Somali/African-Americans and one Somali/Jamaican. All their fathers were Somali. Every other EA/AA I came across had a habesha mother/AA father. In Arizona, I met a girl with a biracial AA father and a Somali mother; she’s the only one I’ve met so far who looked completely Somali. I think it’s kinda rare tbh.

That’s interesting with all those celebrities with roots in both groups I thought it was common one of my uncles told me they met an elderly African American woman who told him she was half Somali. Somalis have been immigrating to the east coast of the United States for the last 100 years

I’ve seen some in Ohio a lot of them are either completely in tune with Somalis and hang around them or they just straight up don’t really associate with Somalis and just hang around madows like them

Depends on the country and ethnicity. With Somalis, we're pretty endogamous not really mixing with others. The diaspora is more into mixing than older generations because of generally mixing with new ethnicities. It's still rare because most Somalis prefer other Somalis. I can't speak for other ethnic groups though. America having more of the mix makes sense being a pretty diverse nation.

I've seen one instance of them together at a school in Maine. It was a video on tiktok of people saying where they were from at a school that had a lot of students from presumably refugee/asylum seeker backgrounds. There were a lot of bantu looking kids who said they were Somali and one Somali looking girl who said she was Kenyan

Never seen Somali and AA, only Habesha and AA. Somalis rarely marrying out and it's even rarer to marry out to AA. FYI, Somalis are actually the ethnic group that marry out the least in America, followed by Yemenis.

Hundreds perhaps thousands of Somalis lived in buffalo during ww2 according to a Somali elder they seem to have assimilated into the African American community in buffalo at the time

I know 2 half Somali and Half AA the boy was raised by his mother and looks like a darkskinn somali. The girl looks more her AA and hangs out with her AA side even though she was raised by her somali mom as well.

I know of a tigrayan ethiopian sister who had a baby with a white man, their daughter looks mixed for sure, is light skinned.
I know of an oromo/gurage woman who had a baby with a black american.
but for the most part, ethio women marry ethio men, just like somali sisters only marry somali sisters.
i know a somali brother, from the tunni clan, who married a habesha woman too tho.
then there's a mixed indian/ethiopian family with beautiful womens Allahuma barik.
most somali families i know would only approve of their daughter marrying a somali, and maybe at the most, an ethiopian/eritrean Muslim.
