The Bantu came from the south and west. The Cushites came from the Ethiopian highlands, to the north. They both had a hand in pushing out the Khoisan. Note that both migrations are recent. The Khoe went south about 2 kya and the Cushites about 1300 ya. The Bantu expansion began 2kya in the Niger/Congo area and continued in Tanzania into the 19th century.

By AD1000 the Cushites had developed a complex civilization in East Africa that included irrigation farming. Nevertheless, later immigrants of negroid stock, the Bantu and Nilotes, reduced the Cushites to only a few pockets. In Tanzania, the largest Cushitic group is the Iraqw. Others are the Burungi, Gorowa and Mbugu."

Someone explain to a layman why the Nilotes withstood the onslaught of Bantu expansion in their lands and Cushites did not. There are just as many Nilotes in Africa as there are of Cushites, I think?
I know Dinkas are tall people, some stand over 7' feet tall. I have seen pictures of Dinka women well over 6' feet tall. Did Bantus see these giants and run the other way,
