Mogadishu (HOL) -The Deputy Director of Mogadishu based Goobjoog Media Group Abdiaziz Ahmed Gurbiye was Tuesday morning arrested in Mogadishu.

The Group’s Director Hassan Mohamud confirmed to HOL the arrest of Gurbiye noting it was related to a Facebook post on the ongoing COVID-19 developments.

“I can confirm Mr. Gurbiye was arrested this morning after he was summoned by police Monday night,” Mohamud said. “They police said they were charging him in relation to his Facebook post.”Gurbiye who commands significant following on Facebook has been consistently reporting on COVID-19 cases in Somalia in the last few weeks.

In the particular post the police are interested in charging Gurbiye, the journalist alleges a ventilator at Digfer Hospital in Mogadishu ‘was taken by President Mohamed Farmaajo’s office to be used at a medical facility within Villa
Somalia’.

The allegations by the journalist come amid fears raised by the brother of HirShabelle Justice Minister Khalif Mumin who succumbed to COVID-19 last week.
“The minister was clearly in distress when he was at the hospital. He was having trouble breathing and although there was a ventilator in the hospital, nobody knew how to operate it,” Hussein Mohamed Gagaale a relative of the deceased told HOL Wednesday. (See separate story).

The former lawmaker added, "They (Martini staff) are severely ill-prepared. They do not have the necessary training to care for COVID-19 victims and Tohow died as a result."Goobjoog Media Group is yet to issue an official statement on the arrest of its staffer.

Farmaajo is now arresting journalists over Facebook posts yaab, yet he has no problem with Ethiopians and SNA forces committing murder and rape through out the south.

He gave four ports to Ethiopia and can't even comment on Ethiopians building dams and drying our rivers,Walle Farmaajo is everybody's dh1lo.

Journalist should be given room to criticize and report what they see on the ground. I understand we also have irresponsible journalist who promote clan feud and cause public panic for bit of money and fame. I believe there should be a law on both protecting legit journalists and calling out fake reporting on social media with the intention to cause clan hatred. :)

Do you think this FB post is worth a jail?

They arrested him because he was probably telling the truth. What kind of dictatorship is this? Reporters and journalists should be left alone.

Thank God my president Deni is not an insecure, fragile president, he gives journalists the freedom to report whatever they want.

I wonder why somalia can only function in two extremes, either an anarchic government or authoritarian
We're extreme with everything, even beyond politics.
Somalis do not know a middle ground what it means to compromise.
it' innate.

Even landers who like to point to their almost 30 year smooth "democracy" lock journalists up. :ftw9nwa:

Have you seen Denis stomach he's probably more likely to die from the virus.

I blame the siyad barre era for teaching people hero worship instead of looking at circumstances realistically. Military men marching on the streets is a dream to somalis now. They would probably be happy living in soviet russia as long as they get nationalist music playing in the background

I almost said Somalis can't be governed unless it's a strong man kinda governing but then i realized the first 9 years before barre, we were doing fine.

he ruined us wallahi odaygu.

the funny part is, many somalis long for this type of government, even to this day, saying somalis are hard to control otherwise. Everytime i come across one of those people, i tell them, how did it end for us the last time out?

I had the same opinion. but then I realized like most somali kids I was fed the propaganda about the good old days. After doing my own research I saw how much damage he really caused. If somalis weren't so run my emotion, they could see the same. but everything is about feeling for them

they focus too much on nationalism, a stupid concept. We should focus only on development and getting rid of poverty and violence.

agreed!
the unwarranted pride is what we prefer apparently.
being told your adeer was geesi is better to your average somali than his entire qabiil developing their slums under someone else.

like i said, it's ingrained deep in most of us, and it's a disease.

I can't believe it. He's actually hoarding ventilators in the 1 bedroom villa. I bet this is his room now.

The down syndrome leader of the 1 bedroom thinks that surrounding himself with ventilators will protect him from koroona. How long before he refuses to step outside his bedroom without covering himself in ventilator skin?
