I'm not trying to imply anything about Sh. Mustafe btw in fat just the opposite. I find it interesting that nearly all major modern Somali Islamic figures come from 1 of 3 organization Ahl Al Islam (Ahal, South), Nahda Al Islamiyya (Naxda, South), and Waxdat Al Shabaab Al Islami (Waxdah,North). Ahl Al Islam also produced many differing Islamic figure who ranged from Cabdulqaadir Cukaash (One of the biggest Madkhali/Jadiidiyo sheikhs in Somalia) to the one and only Hassan Dahir Aweys.

Ahal later split into a faction which was aligned to Jam'at al muslimin (Egyptian radical group pejoratively known as Takfir wal Hijra) and a more moderate group called Jamaaca al Islamiyya. Jamaaca Al Islaamiya merged with Waxda in the north to creat Al Ittihad Al Islami

He is the best publically known Somali wadaad in my opinion. Spent a lot of time in Europe before returning home. Along with Sheikh Mohamed Rashad رحمه الله they both have/had a lot Xiikmad.

If there ever is a genuine reconciliation conference between Somalis, he should be at the forefront despite mentioning not wanting to get involved in politics.

On the evening of June 19, 2013, Al-Shabaab’s secret police, called the Amniyat, surrounded Afghani’s residence in Barawe, erecting roadblocks and deploying numerous fighters around many key buildings in the city. According to witnesses, following Maghreb prayers,

Afghani was walking without a bodyguards to a nearby mosque. A group of young men approached him as he was walking, with one of them shaking Afghani’s hand. Moments later, a second man came from behind and shot Afghani once in the head. He was critically injured when moments later, men jumped out of a parked car and began to shoot at his body, one of the men shouted “Munafiq” the Arabic term for “hypocrite”.

His body was then picked up and taken into the car and driven away to an unknown location.[1] On 29 June 2013, Alshabaab military spokesperson, Abu Musab, announced that they had killed Afghani during a gun battle on 20 June 2013 when he resisted arrest, but family members, including Afghani's sister, said that he had been executed
