Gaalonimo is drying

  • For the first time in a census of England and Wales, less than half of the population (46.2%, 27.5 million people) described themselves as “Christian”, a 13.1 percentage point decrease from 59.3% (33.3 million) in 2011; despite this decrease, “Christian” remained the most common response to the religion question.

  • There were increases in the number of people who described themselves as “Muslim” (3.9 million, 6.5% in 2021, up from 2.7 million, 4.9% in 2011) and “Hindu” (1.0 million, 1.7% in 2021, up from 818,000, 1.5% in 2011).

They're gonna blame it on Islam but it's mostly due to atheism, that being said there is a big jump in the Islam amount but it's mostly due to immigrants and big families rather than converts.

People are becoming less religious in general. Those Hindu and Muslim numbers comes from immigration and/or their 10 children.

Said Rageh said there's a gaal crisis also in the Muslim community. Everyone is becoming gaal.

There are more people reverting to Islam than leaving it.

I agree there is a "gaal crisis" but it's more nuanced. the reason why we see have explosion of irreligious because the education system teaches that religion something personal and second secular values, that's why we unfortunately seen many western-raised muslim trying to fit islam into modern liberal framework.

You can't switch out in many communities/countries or you die or get ostracized, let's be real. There's no fear in leaving other religions, only Islam. The number is way more than that. Some are even forced conversion like the Christians in Nigeria for example. I know for a fact some Somalis in Somalia now who are closet atheists/agnostic, including one soldier. It's laughable that Somalis say this doesn't exist in Somalia

I'd argue Muslims are becoming more conservative. Muslims globally were much more liberal and less religious in the 60s/70s than now.

Sudan, Somalia, Russia, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Turkey, Indonesia, Central Asia, etc. Far more devout at least outwardly then before.

They are becoming more conservative, yes. My generation were no where near as religious as the kids today. My family has always been very religious, but even more so now. But there were not nearly as many agnostic/atheist Somalis then as there are now, at least openly.

This doesn't bode well for Somalia though. All this will do is make create more extremists and will make Al Shabab harder to defeat.

My judgement isn't clouded. I have relationships and have met with all types of Somalis. Somalis are very guarded/shaming culture aware people and will lie to you if required to keep the peace. Many Somalis act differently if they trust you and not with other people present, even religious ones. I know of a very religious guy whose in the closet for example. These anomalies are out there.

There are many clues you can start off with. There are some Somalis you know that you never see at the masjid, right? Some who never pray. I'm sure you know some Somali girls who dont wear the hijab. Some who you have seen not fasting. Some you know who never talk about the deen or even say words like mashallah. A few who don't know any Quran. You know a bunch of these types of people. These are clearly not people who are practising Muslims. It's obvious a chunk of them don't believe in Islam.

The population that is openly atheist/agnostic is small. The population that keep it to themselves but is quiet about it is alot.
