HBO have increased awareness about the A Song of Ice and Fire books. I wouldn't say they are copycats as they consistently produce great original shows such as The Wire, The Sopranos, The Night Of and Rome. Also, they have made succesful adaptations such as Game of Thrones and Westworld.
