Former Somaliland Minister asks for forgiveness after admitting to have taken money to inflate wage

Former SL Minister for Post and Telecommunication Mohamed Jama Abgaal asked the general public for forgiveness as he stole money by inflating and taking more money as salary that was entitled to him.

He said in his position as minister the first year he visited a doctor and was diagnosed with kidney stone, the following year with high blood pressure and finally when he visited the doctor in his last year he was diagnosed with a heart condition whereby his heart was found to not be working properly as it should have been.

He told the reporter for every year he was a Minister he became ill with a new condition and was constantly sick he attributed his ailments to his own involvement in corruption and taking more money to inflate his wages.

So because he started to get ill after stealing money that wasn't meant for him, he asked for forgiveness in hopes of getting his health back?

So if he wasn't afflicted with illness, he would have kept up with his shenanigans?


The people better tell "Moooooove maaaaaaan". He should have been happy with what he first got, his greed destroyed him.

Apparently he is the first Somali public official to admit corruption.

In Somalia we don't have whistleblowers, independent judiciary or investigative journalism.

Corruption is rife everywhere it is endemic and engrained into the Somali identity and fabric.

You see a broke guy is given a position in Somalia and suddenly he will get rich and by the end has several houses, businesses and other assets, gets married to a younger woman and is unrecognisable meanwhile his salary should be less in what a student would earn in a part-time job. Some come from the comforts of Europe, Australia and North America because they can strike big robbing public money and make themselves rich.

We the public can only pray to the most high to give us effective and uncorrupted officials that will safeguard public assets and not use it for their personal benefit and gain.

They should just make the salary low to begin with most of the ones who work there are only in it for the money

Low salaries and an honest person with imaan should be accountible with giving people their salaries and any person who complains gets kicked

Don't you know everyone has like a nickname that they are known as like AMM is known as Silanyo which is'nt his actual name. similar to the other prev minister Ali Marexaan - he aint marehan but got that somehow

Knowing how shrewd Abdalla is he probably has something slightly devious and subtle in mind.

not sure if this just an isaaq thing or a Somaliland thing or maybe its just certain subclans - cant be an isaaq thing only coz the head of SSC rebel group turned minister the buhoodle guy had a nickname

the prev mayor of Burco in Dagalaab . HGA mayor Soltelco and many more dont know the Las Anod mayor (the SL one lol - just look at news coming from there and they'll mention the name)

Sir most Somalis have nicknames that is not the issue, the issue is actual clan names like in this case 'Abgaal' there was also another minister who was known as Cali 'Mareexaan'.
