MashaAllah, read about Somalia's big potential to transition completely from paper currency, a progress, an area we are/could be years ahead of our neighbors ...all that in the space of few years of mild stability 
It is a bit too late for Visa.
Mastercard have already gained a foothold in Somalia years ago through Premier Bank which has done a lot of advertising and opened up branches in most big Somali cities.
Those Somalis who were willing to set up formal bank accounts have already flocked to Premier Bank.
However, competition in the banking sector is good for Somalia and I wish Intl Bank all the success they deserve.

5 000 cards is nothing. Maybe it is something in Somalia, but not compared to any other country.
I mean in half a year in Somalia when at the time the bank was only really based in Mogadishu is somewhat impressive. Since then, they have probably reacher larger numbers.
Also, most Somalis that would use formal banking are diaspora who have overseas accounts and only want/need ATM facilities and POS machines. Most domestic Somalis are not interested in getting a Visa or Mastercard cause they have mobile banking.

salam bank and another bank near km4 in xamar has offered cards for years. the one in km4 had an atm. this is nothing new.
Those were just simple ATM cards not Mastercard or Visa. The difference between the two is the latter options allow for online purchases/subscriptions whereas the other can only be used at ATMs.
Also Salaam bank had one ATM in a hotel whereas IBS and Premier Bank have opened up ATMs across the country. They even have branches in SL now. Different levels sxb.

They have had DHL in most major cities even during the war and now there are courier services.
Problem is that we do not have a proper addressing/PO Box system.
Youtube back home blew up around 2015 when the first Mastercard cards were given out and ordinary Somalis could access online payment systems.

I was watching a video on how to order stuff if you're in Somalia and for the ZIP code the guy put in "252" which is Somalia's country code and for the address he put "Muqdisho"

What they do is have their stuff delivered to their local DHL office which would then call them to pick up their order.
Somalis have a penchant for the inconvenient.
