I don’t get why Ethiopians are quoting this Hadith against Somalis fighting them because all the conflicts we have had against them were all started by them. As far back as the Walashma-Solomonic wars in the Middle Ages were started by the animosity of the Christian Emperors who ruled underdeveloped regions compared to their wealthier Muslim neighbors. Even in modern times when Menelik was expanding Ethiopia and killing Muslim civilians unprovoked, it was the Somalis who wanted to counterattack and lead a jihad to stop them.

Ethiopia didn’t conquer Galbeed, it was ceded to them by the British who demarcated the borders of Somalia-Ethiopia in the 1940s. We know that most raiding parties sent from Ethiopia to Ogaden ended in complete failure and humiliation.

Depends, alot of Arabic sources call the entire horn "Al Habash" Abyssinia.

But there's also the Christian Kingdom of Abyssinia/Axum. Which is what I belive the prophet refers to here.

Correct, Abyssinians used to refer to not only Habeshis but also Somalis, Galla/Oromo, Sudanese and even Egyptians in rare cases. I’m not sure if Abyssinian in this case refers to Habeshi only but my point still stands.

It wasn't Abyssinia that time. It was Axum. It was called Al Habasha by Arabs but it was only really called Abyssinia during the Zagwe dynasty. Then it changed its name to Ethiopia by Halie Salassie, to link the state to the biblical ethiopia which was Sudan/Nubia in reality.

Al-habash was a region, it wasn't referring to modern day Ethiopia in specific. In most usages throughout the islamic period it was at times in refrence to Somali inhabited areas. It could also be plausible that the prophet sent his men to the coast of Somalia or Daklak Island.

I shared a little bit about it earlier in a different thread.

The first hijrah was not Ethiopia, it was either Dakhlak Island off the coast of Eritrea or Zayla Northern Somalia both served as entrepoints to Islam, from which it first disseminated.
They certainly did not go to Axum which was landlocked at the time and seized to exist basically.

This mis-perception whitewashes the reality of medieval Ethiopia which was a crusading feudal fiefdom that hated Islam , heck any sect that was different even as you seen with Falasha. They wouldn't give anyone refuge, as they were even oppressive to their own people.

Ethiopians were religious crusaders, the prophet wouldn't send them there. How would he send them to the people who would destroy the Kaaba?

This also comes from another misperception with the use of ''Habash'' which was a regional name that sometimes even stretched to Egypt, Sudan to Somalia. When medieval Arab geographers and writers employed it , they were not talking about the modern supra-ethnicity ''Habesha'' or modern Ethiopia. They were applying to a broad geography and people, without discerning them.

You can also tell that the prophet was talking about a seperate part of the region called -Al-Habash because not only did they occupy Dakhlak to prevent Ethiopian highlanders access to the red sea until Muslim formations took over that kept it landlocked but he also shared the story of them destroying the Kaba which shows there is deep memory of them being enemies of Islam and an Egyptian author from a book i read recently pretty much summed it up well:
