Ethiopia plans to launch a second satellite into space in October 2020

"The satellite is a 6U nanosatellite with high resolution and developed in Ethiopia by engineers at the Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute (ESSTI). The primary mission of the satellite program is to expose Ethiopian engineers and scientists to hands-on experience and demonstrate the Institute’s capability in integrating nanosatellite subsystems locally."

congrats, but this still comes to mind tbh. a nation in debt is never free.

their long term implications of all this 'niceness' seems neocolonist. we will move from a continent being pillaged and plundered from europeans for resources, to now china. africa needs to become self sufficient, it has more than enough resources to do so. valuable resources per capita, no other continent comes close.

sight like these are a sight for sore eyes. there are many native ethiopians who dont speak amharic or understand ge'ez script, but mandarin is treated like s second langauge on many signs around. i dont see why this is so, unless they have plans to move in in drones and take over

CHINA WILL SEND ANOTHER SATELLITE FOR ETHIOPIA INSIDE CHINA SINCE THE HABASHI MONKEYS DO NOT HAVE THE TRAINED ENGINEERS NOR THE MONEY TO BUILD A ROCKET TAKE OFF BASE INSIDE RAW MEAT EATERS LAND AND THEY WILL USE LOANS BORROWED FROM THE IMF FOR THE 6TH TIME SINCE JANUARY 2020

THEY BEG THE IMF FOR $ 400 MILLION WHEN KENYA EXPORTS $ 7 BILLION EACH YEAR , TWICE MORE THAN SHITHOLE ETHIOPIA

WHY BEG THE IMF FOR $400 MILLION WHEN YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO SEND A SATELLITE?

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved today a purchase under the Rapid Financing Instrument (RFI) equivalent to SDR 300.7 million (about US$411 million, 100 percent of quota) to help Ethiopia meet the urgent balance of payment needs stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic

ETHIOPIA CANNOT AFFORD TO SEND A MERE $6 MILLION OF SATELLITE :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn:

75% OF THE LOAN, A MERE $6 MILLION, menaing they borrow 4 point 5 million APPARENTLY A COUNTRY THAT SPENDS $300 MILLION ALLEGEDLY EACH YEAR ON MILITARY

ETHIOPIA IS BANKRUPT

YALL COULD HAVE ASKED GO-FUND ME TO RAISE THE LITTLE PRICE TAG :russ::damn::damn::damn::damn::damn::damn::damn::damn::mahubowtf::mahubowtf::hemad:

The Chinese government provided 75% of the total cost of the ETRSS-1 satellite, worth about USD 6 million, and helped to launch the satellite

ITS NOT EVEN A REAL SATELLITE, ITS A TINY LITTLE SPACE PROBE,

COUNTRIES SPEND ABOUT $2 BILLION ON A REAL SATELLITE THAT WILL STAY UP FOR 20 YEARS AND CAN SEE AS SMALL AS 3cm

i wonder how far this satellite can see, 1 km ? :damn::damn::damn::damn:

Unless it's an Ethiopian rocket and satellite, it's not an achievement. Ethiopia has great PR though.

READ!!! This is Ethiopian made Satellite!

@xabashi

Is Ethiopia working on a rocket to deliver its satellites on its own to orbit?

How can you miss the real news i.e. the new Satellite was MADE IN Ethiopia and BY Ethiopian Engineers. Don't you think that is something to notice?

No, only 9 countries have the rocket launch technology in the world. Even in Europe only France has this technology and you ask if Ethiopia is working on to have a rocket launch system? Serious? We are talking about Satellites not the capability of launching rockets.

To keep your balance, you must keep moving.

If Iran can develop a rocket, why not Ethiopia? Iran is way more isolated from the world than your country.

I didn't get your outburst about missing the real news. Are you ok?

Sorry, I thought you were joking :ftw9nwa:. Apologize!
Iran is using North Korean engine designs on its rockets, that are in turn are based on the Soviet design.

Turkey is working on its own indigenous engine from ground up and steadily progressing. I think they will start launching their own rockets in the next 5 years.

Elon Musk' SpaceX buys engines from 3rd party supplier.

Jeff Bezo's Blue Origin is developing its own rocket engine. He is working on something big in terms of rocket designs.

The US is so much ahead of other countries in this field.

Here is the Turkish indigenous space rocket engine testing:
