Ethiopia had no stone cities before the Portuguese taught them

we will mention Ethiopian architecture and Urbanism since advanced cities and large population centers are one of the key hallmarks of civilization as classified by anthropologist. All historians agree that after the fall of Axum cities and urbanism disappeared from the Ethiopian highlands.
The Ethiopian Emperor lived in tent cities filled with pagan prostitutes (So much for being a Christian civilization). No Ethiopian town had a population of over 1,000 after the fall of Axum and even the incredibly charitable accounts of the Portuguese, who respected Ethiopia as a Christian Nation and supported it from complete subjugation by the neighboring (And far more advanced and civilized Adal Empire), mention that Ethiopia didn’t have any cities greater than 1,600 in population and it also had no walled cities. German chorar Job Ludolf mentions that Ethiopians were chocked when Europeans told them about having multiple cities and that the only city in Ethiopia was Aksum. Jerome Lobo and Manoeal de Almeida, who visited Ethiopia in 1624, note that other than the Emperor’s tent city no city in Ethiopia was a large as a city or even a town in European sense of the word and that the whole nation was comprised of small hamlets and villages. They also note that buildings made of stone are a rarity in Ethiopia and most are made from grass and thatch.

Ethiopians were brought up from savagery by the civilizing Portuguese who convinced the naked emperor families that he shouldn’t live in a mudhut in the words of famed Amhara historian Merid Wolde Aregay. The Portuguese were key in the building of Gondar.

Joao de Barros the Portuguese historian which has been called the modern Herodotus recorded that every monument that the Habeshis produced was made by foreign be they Coptic, Armenian, or Indian. He characterizes them as a barbarous and beastly race incapable of scientific advancement

However the benefits of Portuguese masonry did not reach other part of the Kingdom as Adwa the capital of Tigray was described by a European traveler as a city of a few mudhuts a far cry from the supposedly historical and magnificent city.

After the fall of Axum? Not entirely true since the Zagwe dynasty had towns like Lalibela. However starting from the Solomonid era and forward it does become true until Gondar gets built.

Lalibela was just a church with no signs of it being actually settled

Mabye it was because of the terrain that they had no buildings I presume?

Portuguese were important in the construction in the building of Gondar but many of the masons/architects were of Ethiopian origin and the architecture reveals strong local elements. It’s bullshit to act like the Portuguese civilised Ethiopia and taught them how to build.

There is truth to this but extremely hyperbolic, there are literal accounts from other Europeans describing Ethiopia masons, also there isnt much foreign material in the churches that reveal these Indian or Armenian influences other than things like carpets, most foreign influence was Coptic but there wasn’t much else due to Ethiopias lack of outside contact

The Portuguese Jesuits were already kicked out once Fasili Ghebbi was built.

Massive difference between 1,600 households and a population of 1,600

No, the Axumite empire was abundant in buildings and hosted some of the largest palaces of the ancient world, after the fall of Axum there was massive regression due to complete lack of contact with outsiders and constant conflict with neighbouring pagans aswell which resulted in there lack of building/destruction of old buildings

Axum is eritrean history and not ethiopian history right?

It’s both but way more closely linked with Eritrea and only really strongly linked with Northern Ethiopi

The only part of Ethiopia that Axum included was Tigray, researchers when excavating Eritrea and Tigray come across Axumite/Pre Axumite towns/small cities like it’s nothing lol, but in the Amhara region not a single Axumite site/settlement has been discovered.

IMG_2415.jpeg

This is a map of archaeological sites in Eritrea and Northern Ethiopia, the red dots are all the Axumite sites. There are many smaller sites that it’s missing but these are the main ones.
IMG_2545.png

Look at the other map side by side with this one, you can see there isn’t a single site that has been uncovered south of Tigray.

Also the language of Axum was Ge’ez which is today most closely related to Tigre and Tigrinya which are only spoken in Eritrea and Tigray, Amharic and all those other Ethiopian Semitic languages are in a different language subgroup.

Amhara claim Axumite descent but there claims are most likely bogus and are based purely on oral tradition, there isn’t much proof to support it, there is evidence to Axumites spreading south to evangelise in Amhara region but no evidence of large scale migrations or anything. Axumite rulers used to exile people to the South so they could have some Axumite heritage that way lol.

Somalis probably have a stronger connection to Axum than many Ethiopians do ngl, merchants from Barbaria used to trade at Adulis whilst Oromos were still herding cows in Northern Kenya kkkkkk many Ethiopians outside of Tigray could have Axumite ancestry by way of mixing with Tigrayans/Eritreans moving south, there is proof of this happening with Zagwe/Lalibela even.

Yep I knew it those ethiopians are hoteps through and through and they steal history from us and eritreans they have nothing of importance to themselves.

Now that it looks like excavations are going to take place, the Ethiopianist narrative will crumble
