I recently adopted Islam but honestly I can't get myself to pray. I laugh and look around when I'm praying, much to the chagrin of fellow worshippers. I once got into a fight with a pious Pakistani man during Ramadan for checking my texts during Taraweeh. Deplorable act on my part. I'm still working on it but I don't think I'll ever be a fully practicing Muslim. Not that I hate the religion but I just cant get myself to do it. As for the institution of religion, they all have their wackos and I don't think there's a good reason to single out one sides wackos.
