Eid actually sucks

I barely celebrate it, the most I'll do is send a Eid Mubarak text message the night before and I'm done. Too much pressure to celebrate and be with extended family when you're just not up to it. I'd rather eat and sleep instead of getting dressed up and forced mingling.

Hooyos are like that, I've noticed the more you respond with rational rebuttles the more defensive and confident they get in their assertions and the whole thing turns into a shouting match
There is no winning an argument, the sooner you accept the better. Hooyos are mentally resilient and it can get irritating sometimes but we love them for it. So just keep a cool head

Your family is the way it is because of war and dysfunctional family relations. Your hooyo is emotionally burdened which is causing her to act irrationally. There is cause and effect. Your moms behaviour is inexcusable but try to understand where she is coming from and why she is acting that way. Try to change what can be changed and always try to think positively.

Feel bad for u , i had similiar experience in my teens but somehow its mellowed out. Most likely because i fit their expectations now , as opposed to flunking and so the family image is maintained. I pray u get through it , a toxic household is horrible for MH.
I’m sorry. Too much pressure to have ‘fun’ on holidays takes the enjoyment and pleasure out of it.
Honestly I suggest while your young trying to have healthy communication with your siblings. Because just like your mother, when you guys move on with your lives it’ll be distant and cold relationships. Try mending these relationships whilst you’re still under the same roof. It’s hard but it will help you with other relationships as well.
Everyone’s family is at least a little bit disfunctional. But because there’s so many (stubborn) personalities in Somali households it’s that much harder.
Eid always sucks for me. I too have dysfunctional family. The bad brothers are given respect and attention while they make my mom and others miserable. The sister doesn't care if the two other brothers of hers get complaints of ruining people. 1 brother impregnated a girl in Somalia and doesn't send her money and embarrassed us and he told the girl he wants to divorce her. The other brother messes with my mom that he lives with even though he is 29 years old, he isn't 100% in the head or he is special child. He steals stuff from moms room at her own house and dropped out of college and doesn't have a woman nor does he know how to get a woman. And he doesn't pay rent to the mother.
The other initial brother I mentioned who impregnated the cousin he was given to in Somalia and doesn't send any money, he is now sleeping at a motel with nowhere to go and pretty much homeless. Good punishment for what he did as he is embarrassing us and sister and/or mom may have to start sending money to her since he isn't. He is corrupted and I even stole stuff out of sisters purse before. Becoming homeless is fitting punishment for him as it is really Karma biting him back for going to impregnate a young Somali maskiin girl his relative gave to him and who is his own cousin and then not supporting her with money.
But at least you have your Somali spot Family-- you can come in here and VENT to us. We appreciate YOU. You are the heart of your family. Just write a book about them. LOL
