It was the best film I have seen in a while, to be honest. Denis Villeneuve never missed from what I have seen from his work.

I never actually watched Dune. I first heard about it 2-3 years ago when I heard the film coming out. But people recommended me to read the books first. I might give the books a try in the future I hope.

I am surprised but timothy really brought the most IM HIM energy I’ve seen in Hollywood in a long long time. Staring down and challenging the Bedouin people in that meeting, rolling up on the emperor on savagery, making him kiss the ring, and then fighting the bald fella. Pure masculine energy. I didn’t think we would get this Bruce Willis in die hard energy ever again

Damn I saw the original , was 2049 that bad? I thought that director was good because of Sicario

I think it could’ve been better, the main character doesn’t really struggle, he wins too easily. The good guys have it too easy. The saudakar (the elite soldiers) are so easily defeated and we don’t see the action, it happens under smoke, it’s too lazy.

I like his original small projects, like Sicario and Prisoners but he sucks at anything ambitious.

It was so bad, I dont remember much of it, which is always an indication to me. But top of my head:

• The film does not conclude whether Deckard is a replicant or not. Original director said many times he is.
• Even worse, Deckard reproduced with a replicant, so he must be one but since its 2049, what happened to the "short life span" built into replicants, amongst other dead end questions.
• The very interesting character that was Deckard is now reduced to whatever that was
• So much wasted screen time on silly things like JOI, I get what they were trying to do, it was still silly.

The only thing the film had going for it was its aesthetics, other than it was hollow. To be fair, I dont think even Ridley Scott would have been any better. He is also making pretty films that are empty to just insulting, see Prometheus 180 IQ astronauts who encounter a space snake:
