Why should I care that some kids Santa experience was ruined when Palestinian kids are dying under rubble?

But what does this have to do with visitors at a shopping mall on the other side of the world? You’re also not allowed to protest without permission on private property. Why didn’t they do this outdoors in public? This doesn’t advance the cause in a positive manner. This was bad PR. They probably alienated people who supported them or could be swayed. Always think about your actions before proceeding: what are the pros and cons?

Walaal Santa isn't real I'll walk into that mall myself and break the bad news to them.

In all seriousness, this is bad PR but I don't like it when people make tone deaf posts like this one. Kids are dying and people are angry, this isn't the best way to go about it but it's still important to remember the context.

This is what they did in Toronto Eaton Centre today! This is definitely not helping their cause.

There are many people out there who do not want to be exposed to anything political or any current events, especially while doing errands. I met with an older woman I used to work with yesterday and she told me she never watches or reads the news. She only uses the internet for email, weather, recipes, etc. She has no interest. She likely doesn’t even know what’s going on there and is neutral. Imagine if someone like her who is not invested becomes anti-Palestine because she was inconvenienced. That’s one more person against your cause. What is important to you is sometimes not important to others. Best to hold these protests at predictable places like political sites such as parliament and legislatures

I don’t think it’s unusual that Israel appears to have more support from the general public today. Muslims and Palestine had a lot more sympathy when I was growing up. Anti-Israel and anti-Jewish sentiments were much stronger among whites. Being called a “Jew” was a big insult and being anti Jew was acceptable. It’s reverse today. What has changed is that diaspora Jews in the west exercise more restraint than Muslims. They do a much better job trying to present the image as being an innocent community.

I’ve noticed Somalis and other Muslims don’t understand optics. Being on the morally correct side isn’t enough. You need to be conscientious of how you are perceived too

I agree. At work I try to learn about other peoples cultures and give them my well wishes whenever their holidays come up. I’ve noticed that most of them reciprocate and go out their way to be helpful when I’m fasting

Sadly I’ve heard some people say that you’re watering down your values or being weak for wanting to present yourself in the best possible light. They think not caring about what the world thinks of them makes them tough. It actually isolates them and makes them vulnerable

It’s in times like this when I’m reminded of the old adage "you catch more bees with honey than with vinegar"

The reputation of the Somali community is 100% on them and they should stop whining about it and take some accountability. It’s not because of the tired line that they are “Black, Muslim, and refugee”. It’s so dishonest. They immediately dismiss legitimate concerns. There are plenty of Black, Muslim and former refugee communities with a good image. They need to accept that they are wrong a lot of the time and need to be open to constructive criticism instead of calling you a white bootlicker. It’s very exhausting but their mindset should be cleansed. Someone has to call out their B.S. I’m glad there is some pushback now. It was impossible to have a different viewpoint just a few years ago.

Liberals are too miskeen to govern over the strong minded geeljire. I’m convinced a large amount of Somalis can only behave when living in conservative societies that aren’t very forgiving of poor behavior

I think I had it wrong, maybe the rise in right wing politicians might be a good thing for us after all :rejoice:
