Because some of them hate the immigrants that come from the EU, like Polish, Romanian immigrants etc. And you're right, they have been brainwashed by Farage and Jacob lol. And some of them still think that the UK is very powerful, they believe that the EU should be begging the UK for favorable trade deals. They do not wish to accept that the UK is irrelevant nowadays and that Britain is falling behind the rest of Europe. Even Eastern Europe is starting to catch up with Britain in terms of wealth. And the UK never cared for or liked the EU that much ever since the beginning anyway. They had always been skeptical/doubtful of the EU for decades.
Those are the biggest reasons for the Brexit vote. A mix of being fed up with EU immigrants, arrogance associated with the belief that the UK is still powerful like it was at the time of the Empire, and finally that the EU is holding the UK back with its bureaucracy and taking away sovereignty from the people of Britain. And some lies fed to them through Boris Johnson, Jacob Rees Mogg, Nigel Farage and many others who lied to the British people about Brexit benefits and have never been held accountable for it.
Mix Brexit with a decade of austerity, and you can see why the UK is falling apart, becoming much poorer, and almost all public services not working anymore. The ironic part is, it is all entirely self inflicted. The British people keep voting in favor of austerity by voting for the Conservatives and they voted for Brexit. And now a lot of them are wondering why public services like the NHS are failing. Look at the stats, NHS worked just fine before the Conservatives got in power. But with less funding and consistent pay cuts, all whilst NHS is working harder than before and you can see why the situation got so bad. Literally hundreds of nurses leaving the UK for Australia now. No wonder the police is borderline incompetent. They, like the NHS, had their funding cut too and thousands are also now leaving.
No other Western country is declining like the UK, and they only have themselves to blame.
