Do you appreciate the country you live in?

I know we all like to moan and complain here and there but what do you really think of the country you are based on.

I must admit when i first came to the UK i had nothing and was skeptical i was going to make something out of myself.

First forward 18 years later and alhamdulliah i am content with what i have. The UK for all its faults is a land of opportunity. I doubt i would get the same avenues anywhere else

I know a little bit of Ottawa since I used to go there every Canada day to visit my cousins and from what they told me the southside part of the city is a Somali colony filled with crime

I love Canada. It was the place I was born and raised and I will always appreciate this country who accepted many Somalis as citizens. You can love your host nation but never forget your roots which is Somalia and you should love your roots more.

I do appreciate Britain for taking me and my family in and providing me with opportunities that I wouldn’t have gotten back home. But I’d still like to return and help my community the same way I was helped in the West.
