Do some Somalis eat the head of animals?

I'm convinced it's some kind of Arab migrant inspired thing.

You know the Khaleeji Arabs tell each other cautionary stories about Somalis, about how Somalis were so wealthy, they would throw away unwanted cuts of meat, and even throw out milk when there was too much of it.

I saw it when I was 8 and it was a sheep head didn’t see anyone consume it.Might have been brought by people who settled in Somalia

I really think it's uncommon, I searched up recipes and only saw a few hits.

Yeah I just haven't heard of it being a thing. I've heard other ethnic groups eating the head but nothing regarding us. Perhaps some small communities might but as a whole I don't think we practice it.

Personally I find it odd.

In Somali tradition, certain organs are reserved for certain groups in society. But due to poverty, I guess people eat anything, usually respected individuals don’t eat the madax or majo.

I think also regional, where I'm from Calooley isn't eaten, and certainly never by men. But then again, they also act funny about normal food like Cambuulo and make jokes about it.

Yh same but we still eat cambuulo, true I thought calooley was consumed by everyone until I went Somalia.

No Somali aren't that hungry. We have near 8 millions Camels why would we desperate to eat head of anything? But I've seen goat head in the local Arab hala them niggas eat it.

A lot of people back home don’t have that luxury anymore to make a fuss about what they eat only the upper or middle class uphold those practices.

Good question, I don't know, but I guess, that's for the butcher to deal with.

I don't think I'd care if they removed the edible parts and then added it to sausage meat or something. But to have the head, on a plate, with the teeth and eyes staring at you. Calool adkaa dadkaan.
