He was born in Hubat which was the capital of the Harla kingdom, which is near modern-day Dire Dawa, which was originally occupied by Dir and Hawiye clans up till the 16th century due to the weakening of the Adal Sultane, the Oromo assimilated local Dir clans in the area, he was either Harla or Somali, the distinction is fuzzy for me at least, as I don't have a lot of information about the Harla.
