No it started after a prominent lasanod leader was assasinated and culprits escaped. This was the 140th assasination since somaliland was brought to lasanod in 2007. No where else in the somaliland controlled did this Kind of assinations happen. Locals had enough of somaliland claiming to control the town while they never arrested a single shooter. Days of protests by the locals ended up with over 20 young protesters dead. The real fight started on one of those nights when the somaliland forces shot dead one of their armed Allies from the city. The guys fighting right now somaliland are locals plus former militia allied and somaliland military that left them because their people were being killed.

This statement is incorrect. The location where oil exploration is taking place in partnership with Taiwan is the Western Sool region, specifically in the Caynaba district. This area is exclusively occupied by the Habar Jeclo/Isaaq clan and is not close to the conflict zone in Las Anod/Eastern Sool.
