You should all familiarize yourselves with the types of diabetes and drug administration.

I have seen a lot of Somalis here affected with diabetes.

Type 2 ( Fake diabetes ) can be treated with lifestyle changes.

Monitor and help educate the elderly in your family.

but in all seriousness, DM is one of those conditions that really needs more awareness in our community. Its I wouldn't say cure but lifestyle changes can help control this condition but typically medication
By fake he means it 100% reversible, and he's right.

lol I get the joke..

Not surprised somalis tend to be fat AS f*ck, mainly the older women, they have a weird wobbly walk as well. It's cause they lack vitamin D and as a result their bones weaken..

LOOOL..no, its not due to vitamin D deficiency..its mainly poor diet coupled with a sedentary lifestyle.

Actually we're both wrong, EVERYBODY knows caano geel is cure to every disease in the world!! :chrisfreshhah::fittytousand:
u do know caano geel is the next best food for babies after breast milk? It contains high amounts of Vit C, A, Zinc, and it has many immunoglobulins that reinforce the immune system. caano geel is very very healthy for u.

I'm sure it has some great nutritional properties however it's not some magic cure that many ppl making it out to be.. especially for diabetes. Its terrible for diabetics not a substitute for medicine, exercise and a healthy diet.

There is nothing permanent except change.

Higher blood sugar level associated with obesity is reversible but regular diabetes ain't reversible.

type 2 diabetes: is where you have high blood sugar and no pancreas to produce insulin, its why patience need insulin shots.

extreme low blood sugar = ketogenic diet = minimum insulin requirements = no insulin shot = no drugs = no type 2 diabetes

so the cure is absolutely no mac macaan, no baasto, no bariis, no canjeelo, no jabaati no sabaayad, no timir, no shah cadeys oo sokor leh.

so for a somali there is probably no cure, unless they give up everything and eat fat, meat and very low gi veggies.

TYPE 1

Affected patients need exogenous insulin.
Complications
Diabetic ketoacidosis
Hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state

Type 1: Always requires insulin therapy

TYPE 2

Caused by insulin deficiency and insulin resistance

Many tissues are resistant to insulin.
Reduced number of insulin receptors
Insulin receptors less responsive

Type 2(fake diabetes)
Weight loss
Improved dietary habits
Smoking cessation
Reduced alcohol consumption
Regular physical exercise
Lifestyle changes
Oral drug therapy
Insulin when the above no longer provide glycemic control

TYPE 2

Several comorbid conditions
Obesity
Coronary heart disease
Dyslipidemia
Hypertension
Increased risk for thrombotic events
These comorbidities are collectively referred to as metabolic syndrome or cardiometabolic syndrome.
