Depression has become very pervasive

just yesterday I went out with an old friend and we ended up weeping in a dessert house , she was crying due to her depression and i didn't realise this but she attempted at one point to actually take her own life!

I suck at these things as well I never know what to say ,what's appropriate all I could tell her was to seek help , and to know that I will always be there.

Just out of curiosity, what in particular ails them, or is a source of strife for them to feel this way? I'm very curious in this regard. Thank you :salute:

Not feeling good enough for their family and society, fighting with wives constantly, no work life balance, life feels empty, relationships with siblings became too toxic to fix, scared of the future, etc.

Everyone has some issues, many similar to these, but it's sad to see what chemical imbalances can do to you.

A revered Somali poet Ali Jaamac Haabiil was struck by grief so bad he became depressed.
To open up about his protracted grief and later depression to a crowd of early 20th century Somalis was difficult. Therefore, he vented in the only socially acceptable manner. Through a Eulogy (Baroor-Diiq).

Wuxu yidhi ;
Faaraxow galgaladkaan dhigiyo gama' la'aantayda
Gogoshaan ku jiifsaday hurdada goodkii igu yaacay
Gasiinkii la ii dhigay waxaan gawska uga daayey

Oh! Farax [his friend] the aches I have, and my insomnia,
As I lay my head to my bed, comes the terrors!
and the reason I ceased all sustenance.

The poet, describes somatic symptoms of depression, loss of appetite, generalized aches, insomnia and flashbacks.
He is venting to Faarax , but in the rest of the poem he goes on to talk about the deceased (His dearest friend in the world who he will miss so much).

depression is not real imo.

It is an emotion and emotions always pass. One can feel sad/depressed shortly that’s ok. But one must never ever give up hope.

For your friends I believe this “depression” they feel is just temporary and a motivation from the body. The body gives them pain as a fuel.

Simple steps. Pray and then fix your lifestyle for any chemical imbalance(sleep, nutrition, exercise, quit all addictions). With due time and patience their depressed state will disappear.
